The objectives of the BBS programme at the FOM are to develop students into competent managers for any sector of organized activity. The programme is based on the principles that graduates will spend a major portion of their life in a constantly changing environment. There for the student should have an opportunity to obtain a broad knowledge of the concepts and reality-based skills underlying the operation and management of organizations.
Upon graduation, a student should be equipped to function as a manager in business, industry and government. The graduate should also have a variety of career opportunity in different sector of business including entrepreneurship and create much needed jobs for others.
The BBS programme specially attempt to:
Equip the students with the required conceptual knowledge of business and administration to develop a general management perspective in them.
Develop required attitudes, abilities and practical skill in students, which constitute a foundation for their growth into competent and responsible business managers.
Encourage entrepreneurial capabilities in students to make them effective change agents in the Nepalese society.
Develop necessary foundation for higher studies in management and thereafter take up careers in teaching, research and consultancy.

Curricular StructureThe FOM recognizes the need for both breadth and depth in the total academic pattern. Therefore, the curriculum for BBS degree comprises four separate and distinct course components
A strong foundation in allied areas of business such as language, economic analysis, legal environment and quantitative methods to prepare graduates to understand, analysis and comprehend the management concepts, theories and practices.
Core business studies encompassing and integrating all functional areas to provide graduates with an appreciation of the diversity and inter-relationship of business and management issues.
The opportunity to concentrate in one area of specialization such as accounting, finance, human resource management, management science, and marketing in order to provide graduates with some degree of functional expertise.
The opportunity to choose any sectoral management area such as tourism, cooperatives, transport, hotel, and small business, as an elective course to enable graduates to apply the core and functional knowledge and skills in their chosen sector of business.

The First Year ProgrammeThe purpose of the first year programme is to build a strong foundation in students to prepare them to comprehend the business concepts, theories and practices. The first year programme is organized into the following compulsory and core courses:

The Second Year ProgrammeThe purpose of second year programme is to provide basic concepts, tools and an understanding of the fundamentals business studies. The core courses provide essentials of learning which are basic in the board area of business studies. The second-year programme is therefore organized into the following core and compulsory courses:

The Third Year ProgrammeIn the third year, the students are encouraged to focus on a particular functional and sectoral area of business studies. Building on the foundation laid in the first and second years, the principal mission of the third year is twofold
i) To enable the students to concentrate in one functional area of business, FOM offers -------five steams of concentration:

ii) To provide opportunity to students to select any sectoral management area as an elective courses for the integrated application of knowledge, concepts and skills acquired from the core and concentration courses

Eligibility Conditions for AdmissionThe candidate applying for admission to the BBS programme:
must have successfully completed the PC or 10+2 in business/commerce or an equivalent course from a Higher Secondary School Board, or from Tribhuvan University, or from any other University/Board recognized by T.U.: or must have studied mathematics or economics as a full paper at the PC level or 10+2 programme.
must have studied English as a full paper at the PC level or 10+2 programme
must have secured the minimum marks at the PC level or 10+2 programme as prescribed by the Faculty Board or the campus concerned
must satisfy any other entry requirements or criteria including the entrance test as prescribed by the Faculty Board or the campus.

Admission TestThe objective of the admission policy to select students on a competitive basis. A Student seeking admission to the BBS programme should apply in the prescribed form for the admission test, within the time specified, along with a non-refundable prescribed fee. The applicant should enclose with the application form attested copies of:
1. Certificates 2. Equivalence, transfer and character certificates. 3. Two passport-size photograph
Applicants will be required to sit for an admission tests will be held in different campuses as arranged by the FOM. The admission test will be held on the following areas.
1. Verbal ability2. Quantitative ability3. Business and economics4. Logical reasoning 5. General awareness
Final selection for admission will be based on the applicant's previous academic records and marks obtained in the admission test. Candidates selected for admission will have to produce original certificates/testimonial for all examinations passed at the time of admission.
Field or practical work The education of future managers will be incomplete without exposure to organization reality. Therefore, the field work is made an essential academic requirement for the third year students in all elective courses of the sectoral management area.
The student will under go a field work and spend two weeks studying and learning from the organization during the time fixed by the Department / Campus. After the field work, the student will write a field report on the format prescribed by the FOM and submit to the department for evaluation. The student may also be asked to present the report to the general classes and/or faculty members. The evaluation of the report will be made by a team of external and internal examiners appointed by the office of the controller of examinations. The field work should relate to the student's specialization and sect oral elective. The student must complete the prescribed number of hours of practical work in all courses requiring such work to the satisfaction of the concerned department. The final practical examination will be conducted jointly by a team of external and internal examiners appointed by the office of the controller of examinations.
A student will have to pass the theoretical, practical and field work examinations separately in all the courses having theoretical, field work and / or practical components.Minimum General RequirementsThe minimum general requirements for the 3-years BBS programme are as follows:
An academic year will consist of a minimum of 150 teaching days excluding the day taken for admission and annual examinations.
The total instructional hours in an academic year will be 615 (150 days x 4.10 hours a day). For courses requiring field and practical works, additional hours of study will be required.
A paper of 100 marks will have 150 lectures each of 50 minutes. However, for practical works, extra class hours will be required as fixed by the Faculty Board.
There will be a minimum of five period ( i. e. class hours) each teaching day. The campuses running morning or evening shift will also be required to meet this minimum class requirement.

Attendance, Evaluation and Grading SystemThe final evaluation of students is done through the Annual Examination conducted by the office of the Controller of Examinations, Tribhuvan University. However, for qualifying to appear in the annual examinations, students must meet the following requirements:
The student must have a minimum of 70 percent attendance of the classes actually held.
No student will be allowed to appear in the second year final examinations without first appearing in the first year final examinations. The grading system in the annual examinations is as follows:

Methods of InstructionThe campuses offering the BBS programme should used the methods of instruction which help prepare the student for realities of Nepalese business, industry and government in which he/she has to work. A combination of lectures, group discussion, problem-solving exercises, guest lectures, practical work, and field work will be used as approaches to learning. The campuses are also encouraged to us the case method of instruction whenever required and wherever possible.
Offer of Elective Course by CampusesThe final authority to decide the concentration and sectoral elective courses to be offered by the campuses shall be the standing committee of the Faculty Board. The campuses will have to apply to the Dean for permission to offer any concentration and/ or sectoral elective courses. The applications thus received from the campuses will be assessed by the Standing Committee of the concerned Subject Committee. The campuses will be allowed to offer concentration and elective courses only upon assessment of the required physical facilities including computer and other equipment, faculty in the campus, scope for field or practical work, and the business reality of the area.

Graduation RequirementsThe BBS programme extends over three academic years and the BBS degree is awarded on its successful completion. All candidates for BBS degree must fulfill the following requirements:
The successful completion of 14 courses of 1400 marks as prescribed with passing grades in all the courses.
The passing scores obtained in all theory and practical components of the courses separately.
Completion of courses for the fulfillment of BBS programme must occur within the time limit as prescribed by Tribhuvan University.

Duration of the Course, Examination and Grading System
The duration of the course is of two years and there is a university examination at the end of each year. Eighty percent attendance in the class is compulsory. A student who has passed his/her two years of study will be graded on the basis of the two years’ average marks as follows:

75 percent and above - Distinction
60 percent and above - First Division
50 percent and above - Second Division
40 percent and above - Third Division
Attendance and Evaluation:
The evaluation of the students will be based on two components, internal evaluation - an ongoing or continuous evaluation by the concerned teachers and external examination and annual examination at the end of the academic year. The weightage and modalities of the internal and external evaluation shall be as per the following table:

The internal or on-going evaluation which will be conducted internally by the concerned teachers will include the performances in assignments, seminar presentations, case analysis, term papers and so on.

In order to qualify to appear in the annual examinations, students must meet the following requirements:
The student must have a minimum of 70% attendance of the classes actually held.
The student must have a passing grade (40%) in the internal examination.
No students will be allowed to appear in the second year final examinations without first appearing in the first year final examinations.
The program allows only regular students to sit in the examination.

Sociology /Anthropology Faculty

Sociology/Anthropology Faculty is a consortium of professors and professionals who have extensive experience in teaching and grooming individuals in developmental works and strategies.

The members of the department of sociology and anthropology are active in research and consulting work, which gives immediacy to their teaching.

Admission Criteria
A student holding a Bachelor degree in any of the following subjects recognized by the Tribhuvan University is considered eligible to apply for admission: Sociology and Anthropology: Social Work, Nepalese History, Culture and Archaeology, Psychology, History, Home Science, Geography, Economics, Political Science, Agriculture, Medicine and Forestry with a minimum of 100 marks in Sociology and Anthropology.

An applicant seeking admission to M.A. Sociology/Anthropology must appear in an Entrance Examination and obtain a minimum qualifying score. Admission of the students will be based strictly on merit basis and on the enrollment capacity of the College.

Course of Study for Sociology/Anthropology
The Master’s level program in Sociology/Anthropology offers five compulsory papers in the first year. In the second year paper VI is compulsory for both Sociology and Anthropology. The students can choose Sociology or Anthropology as their specialization and they have to take two compulsory papers of the concerned subjects (Sociology or Anthropology). There are elective papers in Sociology and Anthropology. From the elective courses the students can choose two papers for Sociology and two papers for Anthropology. Rural Development Faculty
Nepal’s four-fifth of its population dwell in the rural areas. Agriculture is the mainstay of the national economy and it is also the largest sector that provides some forms of employment to the rural population. Thus, development of the nation is directly proportionate to the development of the rural areas.

Rural Development equips students with the theoretical and empirical knowledge of rural development, prepares them to shoulder this challenge by making them understanding specific socio-political-economic situation and current needs of the country.

Admission Criteria
A student holding a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from any university recognized by the Tribhuvan University is eligible to apply for admission. Applicants seeking admission to MA Rural Development have to appear in the entrance examination and secure a minimum qualifying score. However, the admission is primarily based on the enrollment capacity of the college and merit of the student.
